Spanish Citizens Embrace Technology to Improve Elderly Care
Recent survey results reveal that a vast majority of Spanish citizens trust in innovative technologies and gadgets aimed at improving the care of dependent people.
From the Osasundata consortium, subsidized by the Basque Government's Hazitek program, we have developed a survey of 300 people aged 40 or older with the aim of understanding their position regarding the use of different technologies that can help monitor dependent people or even diagnose cognitive deterioration in primary stages.
The result is enlightening people highly trust in the usefulness of geolocation sensors, gadgets that take vital signs in a non-invasive way, or tools that remind medication schedules through alarm systems. Between 75% and 88% of the citizens consider these types of technologies extremely useful, with the perceived utility varying slightly depending on the type of device.
They are considered so useful that one in three of every four people interviewed would be interested in using at least one of the devices tested in the Osasundata project at this time.
